We are all gradually approaching the inevitable process of ageing.
Life expectancy has recently increased remarkably thanks to the remarkable advancements in modern medicine. It is anticipated that as many as 30% of those born today will eventually live beyond 100 years. Today, there are already about 700 million older adults across the globe, and this figure is estimated to exceed 2.5 billion by the end of the current century, signalling a significant demographic shift from 9% to 23% of the world’s population.
Even though older individuals enjoy longer life expectancy, they still experience health challenges at a similar age as their predecessors did. This trend increases demand and cost pressure on the adult social care provision system. To cater to this new social landscape, we are responsible for showing enthusiastic support and action on a large scale. This requires a concerted effort to ensure that our elderly citizens receive the dignity, respect, and care they deserve.
